DAMN STRAIGHT
(II) + ZombieWestern
Oh, long times no updates,
eh? Well, we're sorry. So busy on all kinds of non-www stuff. But to make
it brief: we went to Iceland to do another Damn Straight show with Heavy
Trash and PowerSolo, and MAN that was a hoot. Our friend Thorhallurs
sister and some of his friends made us feel so good and welcome, and
dished out the obligatory lamb BBQ at Thor's house. The show was kick ass
of course - we had a gay old time as you can see in the pix section.
What else? We have done some music for "It Came From the West" -
a hand-puppet animated Zombiewestern
which will be released soon - a really great and innovative little flick -
with a message: don't fuck with the zombies unless you have a steamdriven
chainsaw! Can't wait to see the finished film. We will play at a release
party for the movie in Copenhagen around february 07.
We are still planning on recording a new album... rest asured (as we are
resting asured) that it WILL happen. We just have a hard time figuring out
where to go from stereo to mono to.... nono?
And we are revisiting the venue of our very first show back in 98 or was
it 99? Stengade 30. Come by and have a ball.
Report
from DAMN STRAIGHT (the resurrection of Goofball)
Hey punks! Here's a short
report from the Damn Straight tour that we did together with Heavy Trash
and the mighty PowerSolo. The idea was simple: put together 3 hard rocking
ass kicking rock'n'roll bands and send them off to Germany. The first show
was of course in dear old Copenhagen. The infamous Grey Hall at
Christiania was the location, and as a special bonus The Defectors joined
the line-up. "Den Grå Hal" is a venue where many music fans
have had great experiences in the past, but during the last couple of
years not much have happened there. So it was quite an evening for the
crowd to be able to revisit this place and at the same time hear and see
pure magic on stage. It's safe to say that everybody had a great time. And
on top of everything the show was recorded by PowerSolo's Jens Mercedes
Benz. During the weekend he mixed 3 songs from each band with a little
help from Yebo and already the following monday it was possible to
download a full DAMN STRAIGHT live album. It is of course still available
- so go and get straightened out using this link. By the way: Per
played the show using the world famous Goofball bass. Somebody had the
high moral and good karma to return it to Tambourine Studios after it was
stolen. What a fuggin great move. May have saved the future of The TBG and
rock music as we know it!
After the succes in Denmark and a couple of weeks to kill the hangovers
the 3 bands headed off to Germany to do shows in Berlin and Hamburg. In
the Grey Hall we had debut'ed 2 new songs. The first one - entitled
"The Old Back Hand" - was our intro and the other one - tentatively
named "Fuck You You Fucking Motherfucker You" (a new title is in
the works) - was the second in the set. To be able to play some more new
tunes for the Germans we decided to ride together in the old Tambourine
Chrystler van (by the way: this was the last tour with the Chrystler as it
is being sold off by the studio - so RIP ol' friend!). We rehearsed and
tried to get a few new songs going and by the time we hit Hambrug we
actually had 2 new songs ready "9 Times the Pain" and "The
Motherfuckin' G". But we are getting ahead of ourselves
here.
Berlin was a bummer that turned into a great night. We were the opening
band and for some stupid reason the promoter wanted us to play at 7pm. The
show was advertised at 8, so it made little - no: NO - sense, so we had to
play while the audience came in. I guess we had 20 people there when we
started and 100 when we left the stage. It was a tough break, but we gave
it our best, and hit the bottle. PowerSolo had one of the best shows ever
and Heavy Trash (featuring Yebo on the drums) also rocked the house. As it
happened we had a great time that night. Jon Spencer from Heavy Trash was
uncharacteristically crazy and the back stage party ended in a food fight.
Later we found a Cuban bar and had looong drinks and made fun of the
patrons' culture.
The next night was more like coming home. The Crunchy Frog Germany office
is located in Hamburg and they had rustled up a lot of audience. Also our
friends Heike and Crille are proud to call Hamburg their home turf, so we
had a lot of friends in the room that sunday night. We had switched the
running order so this time we were to play last. That was a wise choice.
Yebo had the chance to play a fairly sober Heavy Trash show and a fully
boozed up TBG performance. As it happened we never got to play the 2 new
songs we did in the car. We decided to just hit the ground running and do
a powerful set. We had full control of the smoke machine (as Jon Spencer
took over the control of the lights) - and we hade the BY FAR smokiest TBG
show EVER. Darned tootin'! Under much of the concert no one could see the
band and we couldn't see each other. We filled a champagne cooler with
vodka and red bull and passed it around. Getting more and more drunk, good looking and great sounding. In the end the PowerSolo
guys entered the stage. Kim in fucked up costume playing a bon bon
wrapper. As an encore for the totally stunned audience, we did "Death
Valley '69" with Spencer on vocal, Matt Verta-Ray on 3rd
guitar, Jens Benz and Atomic Child on percussion and Kim Kix doing
push-ups and offensive poses with one testicle hanging out from his padded
shorts. GODDAMN that was fun!
Pictures to prove all this and more will be uploaded when we get the pix
collected!
OH shit - almost forgot the craziest thing of all: at a truckstop between
Berlin and Hamburg we met - no, you did not guess this one - Helmuth
Lotti. That's right kids! Helmuth Lotti was taking a dump at the same gas
station. We immediately asked him to take some photos with us. Just think
about the absurdity: PowerSolo, Heavy Trash, The Tremolo Beer Gut and ...
Helmuth Lotti in the same picture! Damn Straight! Check it out in the
pictures section (it'll soon be there, promise!).
The
Animals Back in Paradise (RIP Goofball)
As promised in this section
a while back, we went back to the scene of the crime of Animals In
Paradise. We played a special show in Turbinehallen in central Copenhagen.
The theater stage was dominated by an almost live size replica of the
Coronation Bridge in San Diego. A huge ass highway bridge just cutting
through the room. A bold setting for an even bolder concert by the
motherfuckin' G.
The show went BOOM. Mad crazy style! Sunding pulled a Schwunding and
couldn't make this landmark gig. In stead we had the pleasure of Mr. Bas
Morgansen whom you may know from the pictures section. He had picked up
the Goofball bass ontime before when we played with The Blues Explosion in
Biel, Switzerland some years back. Now Bas was back in style. A great
musician and a good looking man holding down the fort - putting a
boot in everybodys ass - teaming up with Yebo to make the guitarists go
frantic. On top of everything we had gathered the B-team (sans Mangan who
opted to go to Brazil, the Judas :-)) for this most special of special
shows. No need or room to describe what a legendary evening it was. Just
check out the pictures section for Søren Solkærs fantastic pictorial
from the nite!
As a sad note to the gig the legendary Goofball bass was stolen from Mr.
Morgansen's car on the night aftert he show. This bass have recorded two
records for us, toured the world and been a true supporter of the TBG. May
whomever stole it treat it well - and by the way get some rare painful ass
boil that'll have him sleep standing and shitting bricks for a year, the
bastard!
The
TBG back in a van
Latest news from the TBG
front. We finally got our act together and fired up Tambourine's good ol'
Chrystler van. On tour in Jylland like ind the good old days. With
settling in as lead guitarist we kicked jysk ass as never before. With os
on tour we had Midgaards Rud (management 1) and Juulen (management 2).
They decided they wanted to manage us and started what was to be known as
"minus og minus gir plus management". What a weekend. First wi
hit Århus together with label mates The Mopeds and epo-555. We were the
middle band which was perfect so we had a show to get in the mood, our own
to get drunk and the last show to boogie WAY down. A classic night where
Yebo lost his wallet and keys.
The next night was Aalborg with The Mopeds as support band. We guessed
that about 20 people would come but the place was filled with partying
people. This night we did 3 bottles of vodka and Yebo's cowboy hat was
stolen by some sick punk motherfucker. Nalna was so wasted that he passed
out on a couch in the café. Rud promptly put a big easy chair on top of
him and the rest of us topped it with other chairs. At the end he had half
the friggin interior on top of him. Never woke him up though.
Last night: Pisseborg (long story, in fact we love Silkeborg). A real nice
crew at Upcome welcomed us and we had a good soundcheck and a real
hamburger med sovs down by the famous lake. This night we had a surprise
lead singer. Some drunk guy kept coming up onto the stage and grabbing
Per's mic. He was just unstoppable. Funny stuff. In the end the crew
pulled him down after his 15 minutes of semi-fame. After the show he
seriously asked us if we wanted him to start as lead singer of the band. It
was a classic "Don't call us. We'll call you"-situation.
And then a nother ride home in the middel og the nigt hogging a bottle of
Stoli OJ. Going to truck stops buying DVDs, weird snacks and the dirty
magazine: "Gravballe Bonanza!". What a weekend indeed! We
can't wait to play Copenhagen next. This time with Mr. Bas Morgansen!
CRAZY
cool show at VibraCrunch6
Oh BABY! What a fucking
great night. Some of you guys were present and the rest should wish they
were. The TBG ripped it UP like never before at VibraCrunch6. At the front
of the line-up was The Great Nalna. He's more or less taking over the role
of lead guitarist from Sune who is busy as always with that side project
of his. And what a trade off: Nalna has a slightly different sound and a
more blues-oriented style (with some experimental kinks and twists). Sune
is *still* the master of old school, but Nalna adds a certain new power
both to the sound and the stage prescence - plus of course a sizeable Beer
Gut (= credibility). Behind the old TeischoChord organ Mr. Bas
Morgansen once again dazzled everyone present with his good looks and
amazing keyboard chops. For "Death Valley '69" our old friend
Anders Reuss (aka Dr. Neuss) played a lean mean theremin. Per Sunding came
out of his Daddy-leave (he just had a beautiful son by the name of Max
Alfred) to give the old Goofball-bass a serious beating. All in all it was
sheer good times to be together again, inebriated and playing for all our
friends at the VibraCrunch Festival.
Another pretty damn cool thing about the VC6 show was that we got to play
two songs that we don't usually play. The two tracks were "Tahonga
Lounge Babe" and "She Said". The reason for these additions
to the set was that Mr. Jon spencer from headlining Blues Explosion graced
our show with his exquisite presence. As you all know Jon did a vocal for
the vinyl version of "Tahonga" and as a pay back we did a cover
version of "She Said" for the b-side of BX's "Shakin'
Rock'n'Roll" single. The VC6 show was the first time the TBG version
of that track was ever performed live. How about it kids? It was LEGEND
people!
Check out the report from VibraCrunch at the Crunchy
Frog website and pictures from both the Megafeztival trip and VC6 in
the photo section right HERE!
long
time no news (story of our lives)
As anybody visiting this
site can see there have been very little Tremolo action going on. Shame on
us, but we have been busy elsewhere. Sune W is tourin the world with The
Raveonettes and Yebo have been doing the same with Junior Senior - also
Yebo have been producing records with soulmate-bands such as PowerSolo
(out on Crunchy Frog) and El Ray (HepTown). Per is still producing, and
his upcoming production will be a freakin' kid. Same goes for Jengo. Two
papas to be. This means that the upcoming show we have booked at the
Megafeztival in Sweden will be featuring our old friend Bas Morgansen on
Bass as Per plans to be changing diapers on a 1 month old baby. It is
still unclear if Sune will be able to make the show as guitarist, but in
any case our producer and 5th Beer Gut (aka The Great Nalna) will be there
to do his thang as he's done on several other occasions (SXSW both times
actually!).
Well well well. Freinds! Do not despair. TBG are not dead yet. Plans for
more recordings are in the works and we will be sure to update you on that
when we go ahead...
thetremolobeergut
back on the ol' internet
Finally back online. As some of you may have noticed the
site was down for a long ass time. This was due to our lousy webhotel,
which went bankrupt and then some swine bought the domain. Anyhoo we now
got www.thetremolobeergut.dk
instead of dot com, and we are just glad to be back in cybaspace.
What happened since the last news flash? Well, a LOT. And we can't even
begin to remember it all. Per finally got the Cardigans album ready and it
has just been released. It is a really good record. The Raveonettes have really taken off and are more
or less touring the world all of the time. Jengo remains the King of Fruit
and Yebo have taken up drumming in Junior Senior, the new stars of Crunchy
Frog. JS have a great hit going on in the UK and all over Europe
and Yebo is also touring like crazeh. Jr SR just signed a huge record deal
with Atlantic in the US, so they will be touring there in the autumn. So in total that adds up to no a lot
of TBG action.
Livestuff:
BUT it was a pleasure to be able to once
again play the SXSW music festival in Austin Texas. This time we brought
The Great Nalna as lead guitarist, as Sune had to play with The
Raveonettes just 500 meters away at another venue at more or less the same
time as us. Nalna did an excellent job and nobody went away from that show
with any complaints. Goddamn we rocked, and what fun it was to play the
classic tracks again after such a long time. Last time of course being the
Crunchy Xmas party in Copehagen, which was also a great blast! At that
show we brought the ol' B-Team from Roskilde Festival. It was a
sensational show that we have a hard time remembering in detail due to the
massive quantities of booze we consumed before, under and after the show.
Wuhu! W¨'ll try to get this site updated with some pictures from these
shows real soon.
We have just added a new date in Paris, where we will play together with
Junior Senior at Café de la Danse. It is going to be a rocking night
alright. If you are in Paris don't be too far away on the 4th o' July.
One last thing. If you are craving something "new" to listen to
from the Beer Gut, then we recorded a track for the Crunchy Xmas
Compilation. It's a cover version of The Mopeds' "Deep Under the
See" entitled "Deep Under the Chinese Snow". It features
Per and Yebo playing all the instruments and is a quite haunting little
diddy. On the same sampler you can hear Junior Seniors Senior going at
"Cool Cig's" with great gay pleasue. He renamed the song
"Cool Dicks" and turned it into a homo Xmas anthem. Quite fun
listening. The sampler is not for sale, but it might be available on some
auction site or other...
TBG
on JSBX release + august live dates
First of all, Remember we told you about us doing a re-recording of a
Superheroes-song? Well that little diddy went on the "Turn Me On"-EP as
one of the "remixes", and actually inspired the band to change the live-version of the song to a more Tremoloriffic version. As we also
told you, the JSBX thought this was such a cool idea, that they asked us to do one of their songs, too. This resulted in a TBG old school version
of "She Said", which was the first single from the new "Plastic Fang"-album. After having heard our version, the band decided to release
the track as a B-side of the new single "Shakin" coming out in Europe on Mute in
October. HOW COOL IS THAT? DID YOU PAY ATTENTION? THE TREMOLO
BEER GUT IS GETTING RELEASED ON A JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION SINGLE THIS FALL!!!! WHOAH MAMA!
Second:
The Gut is active on the home turf of Cph, DK playing a few shows this month.
Last saturday we had a gig at a street party in "Pisserenden" which is the block where our label Crunchy Frog has its HQ. Everything was set up
for a perfect evening. We started out having dinner and wine, then we rehearsed for 45 minutes at the office (after all: we didn't play live
for 6 months, so a little practise was in order), and then went down to the party. Unfortunately they had a delay, so we had a few drinks and
waited for our turn. As we were setting up the amps and drums people started gathering, and by the time we were ready to kick some serious
Copenhagen butt, around 1000 people had filled Skt. Pedersstræde. And
THAT's when they cut the power and said we couldn't play at all. They were afraid that the "police" would come and shut us down. What the hell
kinda thinking is that? If the police come and shut us down, then that's it - but shutting us down in advance just doesn't make any sense.
Anyhoo: we got to play 10 angry and desperate minutes in which we delivered Goofballs, Ol' Stam Bull, Clayton's Hotrod, Remember Jemez Red
and Racehorse From Hell. DANG! What a fucking whirlwind of live power! People was into it, the heat was rising, the street filled with sweat,
beer and happy people dancing under a sweet summer sky. And THAT's when they cut the power once more. Needless to say: this was the bummer of
the year. Goddammit!
But we'll make up for it at the gig at our old fave live spot in Copenhagen: LOPPEN. Everybody in the vicinity of Northern Europe should
come out to that show. It's on thursday August 29th. There's no pre-sale of tickets, so don't come too late. Price: 70 kr (no fees).
.... ok, that's it. Take care, and keep that beer flowing into that gut!
The T, the B and the Motherfucking G
What
happened to the news? Here they are... at last!
Oh people, people. You are
justified in all the emails we have received chastising us for not keeping
the web site up to date. And we are indeed sorry. The 4 uf us are so
damned busy on various projects, that we haven't had the time to even see
each other for a long ass time. We have done one little thing though, that
y'all might wanna hear about.
The JSBX re-recording has been accomplished
On a rainy weekend just before Easter The TBG
set sail towards the good old Tambourine Studios to record a version of
JSBX's new single "She Said". The idea of course came from the
similar project we did with Superheroes' "Turn Me On", which was
in fact so successful that Superheroes decided to re-arrange the song and
play it in a rock and roll style at their live gigs, with the TBG intro
and everything. That is as may be, but when Jon spencer heard about this
idea, he thought it was just fabulous, and we agreed that TBG should try
with one of the new BX songs. We have now done the song in a wild surf
& western tremolo style and we are pretty happy with the result. Sune
was hung over the day we recorded the track, so once again The Great Nalna
had to move in and play the lead guitar, as he did it on the last
collaboration with Mr. Spencer: "Tahonga Lounge Babe (Most
Groovy)". We recorded it in the X-Tone bunker in the industrial
outskirts of Malmö, and we didn't have the usual equipment to record it,
so Yebo played the drums of Maurtis C from Eggstone, and Jengo and Nalna
both had to experiment with a lot of different settings on new amps. The
result is a kick ass sound that may not be vintage TBG, but surely is
older than old school. The response from the BX has been positive, and we
are hoping that the track will appear on a release from them in the fall.
Sune Wagner's new band kicks your ass!
At last it happened.... the band that had
been playing under the names of The girl on Death Row and The Shades,
finally evolved into the new siging on Crunchy Frog: The
Raveonettes. The main man is Mr. Sudas straight outta the TBG. By his
side he has the 1/4 chinese blond beaty that goes by the name of Miss
Sharin Foo.

The Raveonettes has just released their debut mini-album by the name of
"Whip It On", and it will be followed by another one called
"Chain Gang of Love" in september this year. Both albums have 8
songs constructed of just 3 chords (the same 3 chords for all 8 songs).
"Whip It On" is in B minor, while "Chain Gang of Love"
is in B major. A very hard core approach to songwriting that follows the
tradition of great bands such as The Ramones and The Jesus and Mary Chain.
The music is brutal, noisy and dark while the vocal harmonies are soft,
narcotic, reverberating the lyrics about sex, cars and the violent cities
of the US.
Per is producing the new Cardigans record
After a lot of successful productions of 22
Pistepirkko, Superheroes, Sort Sol, Thau and many others, Per is right now
doing his most high profile production so far. Yes, it's the new Cardigans
record. The Swedish mega stars have been recording for a long time now,
and the results should be out sometime this year. And then Per can have a
nice break - hopefully playing some shows with the TBG.
Business is booming at Yebo's Crunchy Frog label
If you don't know the label yet, then you
should get your cyber ass over to the Crunchy
Frog web site. The label is right now very visible in DK with releases
by Superheroes, The Raveonettes and Junior Senior. The last band is on the
brink of an international breakthrough. So for all the foreign readers:
Just listen for the track "Move Your Feet" - it will be coming
to a radio near you sometime this summer.
Jengo is 22% more fruity than last year
Summer is coming, and now is the time to eat fruit!
Jengo is still trying to dominate the Danish food market through his
family company Lembcke Fruit. He is working hard and partying hard, and
just getting in shape for some Tremolo action in the end of the summer,
where we will be doing some shows. We will post these on the site as soon
as they are confirmed!
C ya.
The
Gut
appearing on
Superheroes EP
In spite of our busy schedules we have managed to record
a track for our friends from Danish pop band Superheroes. The lead singer and front man Thomas Troelsen has played organ with The Beer Gut live,
and the bands have a mutual fondness of each others music, so when Superheroes asked us to do a "remix" of their recent single, we jumped
at the chance, and did a fucked up split stereo version of the track. As we did with "Das Modell" and "Death Valley '69" we found it wiser to
re-record the whole song ourselves instead of remixing the existing track.
In the company of The Great Nalna and a bottle of Stolichnaya Vodka we did the version in the wee hours of the morning in Superheroes'
own analog recording studio Delta Lab. Check that place out on the website
www.deltalab.dk - it's surely a sight for sore eyes!
The track we did is called "Turn Me Up" and appears on the Superheroes 5-track EP "Turn Me On", which came out on Crunchy Frog on Feb 4th. It's
available on www.vibrashop.com right now. As a special treat
you'll hear Sune's lazy voice whispering the lyrics with minor modifications.

We are soon going to do another re-recording of a track from JSBX's upcoming album. We'll do
everything we can to make this so goddamned cool that the BX guys will have no option but to release the "remix" as
a B-side sometime soon. But of course this is out of the hands of The Gut. Cross yr tiny little fingers, people!
The
Finest of Scandinavian Goddamned Surf

For some time now we've had the ambition to set up some shows with the
best ass kicking surf band from Sweden. That's right, baby: we are talking
about Robert Johnson and Punchdrunks. These guys surely know how to play
it old school style without holding anything back. Thair records are
excellent and their live show is amazing. Just imgine how sewwt this
meeting of the minds will be. We are bringing our good frind Anders Groen
as a DJ (appearing under the aka Donald Green), so we will have a full
night of sweaty, lo-fi fun without any risks of techno DJs, Elton John on
the PA between shows, and all the other horrific things you can
experience. Everything is under control, so you just come out and join the
party! Here are the dates (we are hoping to do the same thing in Sweden
sometime soon!).
Feb 21st: Pumpehuset, Copenhagen
Feb 22nd: Voxhall, Aarhus
Feb 23rd: Rytmeposten, Odense
Old
and future news from the oldest band on earth
What can we say? We are the worst at
updating these news, but in stead we have been very good at doing the
weekly playing cards, and actually there you have all the interesting
facts from our lives during the past year. We of course urge you to sift
through these pages and read the old news and check out the girls that
have been in our dreams all through the year.
So, what's going to happen in the new year? The plans are first and
foremost to do some new recordings. We have been offered to do another Bad
Afro 7-inch, which we of course would love to do, apart from this we have
been asked by our label mates Superheroes to do a "remix" of
their coming single "You Just Don't Turn Me On" - a fun
challenge for sure. We will probably attempt to do the
"original" version as we did with "Das Modell" and
"Death Valley '69". On top of this we have been offered to be
included on some split singles and compilations, so we have to do some
more tracks in the studio. Live-wise we are planning a Danish tour of the
spring of 02, and part of this will be alongside our fave Swedish surf
outfit: Robert Johnsson and Punchdrunks. The Beer Gut seldom plan ahead in
time, so this is as much as we can say. Maybe we will go to Hawaii or
maybe we will stop playing music and just sell Bananas in Jengo's fruit
empire...
Loppen's
birthday + new cd on the way
We've been a bit lazy making new entries
in the News-column, but here is the last dope from Camp Tremolo. After a
few months without playing together the boys finally reassembled for the
birthday party of the cool Copenhagen venue Loppen. It was a free for all
garage bash including The Burnouts (DK) and the DJs Anders Groen and The
Crillster from Hamburg - our 2 favourite old school disc jockeys! As you
can imagine it was a magic night. The venue was packed to the max and both
bands delivered truely great shows. For us it was the very essence of
playing in this band: getting together to play cool music, give it
everything you've got on stage and then have a monster party
afterwards.

L-R: Henrik Liebgott, Steen Jørgensen, Sudas,
The Great Nalna, Fzat, Jengo and Søren Solkær - what a drinkin' team!
Trust us: the hangovers went into history! See a few
shots from the show in the picture
gallery!
Apart from this, we are cooking up a new release together with the good
people at Bad Afro and Crunchy Frog. A lot of people have been asking us
if the Bad Afro-tracks from the Squaresville 7-inch is going to be
available on cd. As it happens, the single is now out of print, so we
thought we'd cut a CD, and then add the bonus tracks from the two vinyl
albums. The record will be released in Scandinavia on June 11th under the
title: "From the Vinyl Archives of...". The cover will very much
like this:

We haven't decided on
the order of the tracks yet, but in no particular order they will be:
Tahonga Lounge Babe (Most Groovy) feat. Jon Spencer
Remember Jemez Red
While Squaresville Is Watching From Afar...
Death Valley '69
Because They're Young
Stay tuned for this record, and if it's not going to be available
in your home town, get it at www.vibrashop.com
Jon
Spencer appearing at Tremolo record ! Wauw!
Can you believe it? Mr.
Cool from NYC just phoned in a guest vocal appearance for the track
"Tahonga Lounge Babe" on our new album. Unfortunately he didn't
make it for the cd version (in Scandinavia) as he was touring with Boss
Hog in Australia, but now we'll add the new version of Tahonga on the
vinyl edition. It should be available in mid-February.

The
Great New Year Bash
As two of our friends by the names of Marc and Natasha were moving out of their great big loft around New Year, we decided to
invite all our friends to a party with The TBG playing live and lotsa booze, beers and champagne in the bar. Unfortunately Per
Sunding was Ver Schwunding for once - he was spending New Years Eve in NYC with his main girl Hanna Anna. So we had to
invite some good friends to play a few songs each on the bass. From THAU we got Fzat, from Tothe International we got Bart
and from out of the blue we got Mickey (who used to play with Jeff Buckley) - and of course The Great Nalna also got to play
some songs on the bass! The tactic was to distribute 4-6 songs to each player, so we wouldn't need to rehearse at all (and The
Beer Gut just loooves not to rehearse!!!).
After the turn of the year at about 1.30 am we had gathered 50 or so of our friends and started to play. Nalna was first man up, as
he was extremely drunk. He had a hard time hitting the strings, but had the incredible ability to actually play the right notes anyway.
Next man up was Fzat, and we felt that we could ease back a little bit, as he was a little more zzzzober. At this point the 3/4 of the
real TBG was so inebriated, that we have a hard time remembering the show. At some point Sune was lying on the floor in a big
pile of people and several times Yebo smashed the bottom skin on his snare drum. After a short break the audience had grown to
150 people and the party continued with Mickey and Bart. Both did very good jobs, and probably played better than the rest of
us. The high - and end - point was a fucked up version of "Death Valley" with Mickey on bass and a large part of the audience
thrashing about on stage, hollering in the mike and playing percussion. Woah baby - what a concert, what a party, what a freakin'
hang over!!!
As soon as the pix are developed and censured we'll post some on this site. Stay tuned!
Meanwhile, here's a
drawing from our frined Jakob Strid, comemorating the evening!
Release Party For
"Under The Influence of ... "
One week after the opening night of "Animals In Paradise" on Friday November 17th 2000 we did the release party for the new
album. The whole audience for this nights play were invited along, and so was a bunch of great people. We got to throw the party
at the fine resaturant at the HIPP theater in Malmö.
The party had 3 very important ingredients: beer, DJ Magnus "Mangan" Svenningson - best known from the B-Team (and NO
other bands!) and a live show by the TBG. The Beer really hit the spot, Mangan layed the groovies tunes ever heard, and the Beer
Gut kicked everybodys ass.
Not having rocked out for weeks and weeks of rehearsals at the theater surely gave us a boost, and although we hadn't rehearsed
the greater part of the new record, we did a set of new songs, before we turned to the older songs, which we can play blindfolded,
lying down and with a LOT of alcohol in the blood stream. And we actually got to do just that (except for the blindfold). God
damn - that was just what the doctor ordered. We had a terrific time, and so did the audience. Of course most of them were old
friends that had seen many a TBG show, but almost all the actors and stage people got something of a (pleasant) surprise seeing
the band in our right element. We gained a lot of new followers that night - and you're darned tootin' - we deserved it.
Just look at some of the pix on the pictures page, and you can see what we're talking about!
The Final Curtain
On December 16th we played the last show of "Animals In Paradise", and although it was really fun, it was also a relief to put this
behind us. On one hand it was really cool to apply our tunes to a play, as you would do with a film score. It worked really well,
and we think both we and the theater people benefited from the experience. On the other hand it WAS pretty dull sitting every
night, playing the same shit over and over again, and with too much waiting time between our cues. That simply is not The Way Of
The Gut! No sweat, no beer, no real contact with the audience. But once again: this was quite interesting to do anyway, and we
got to know some really cool cats during our time at the two theaters. We have gained many new friends among the actors
and stage crew, and for that (and the incredible amount of money we got for doing it) we are truly thankful!
Also a great thanks to all our fans that came out and backed us up. We know some of you were bored, but for some shiny little
moments we're sure we rocked you in your theater seats!
Check out the "behind the scenes" photos from the play at the pictures page!

Tremolo At The Royal
Theatre
Who would
have guessed that The Tremolo Beer Gut would perform at the Dansih Royal
Theater? Not us - that's for damn sure! But it really came to be because
of one of Jengo's pals by the name of Polle (Christian Friedländer). He's
a set desginer for several theaters and on the night of his birthday party
he brought some friends to our show at Studenterhuset in Copenhagen. Of
course it was a most terrific show and one of tha guys there happened to
be the manager of the Theater in Malmö. Both Polle and Nicolai got the
same idea: "Why don't we get these guys to write the music to our new
play?" This new play is a co-production between Malmö Dramatiske
Teater and The Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen, and it's a brand new
play by the legendary English playwright Howard Barker. A real weird
happening involving both Swedish and Danish actors - a considerable amount
of toplessness and the new bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö. They
asked us, and we we're happy to oblige! Plus they paid us a lot of dough!
The music for the play is also present at the new TBG album. These tracks
we're written for the play:
Revolvo 1974
The Sleaz-e-nator
St. Duane
The Casbah Hit
Diablo Mountains Sunset
Slingshot Dragster
Theme From The Beer Hunter
J-Cat Gone Haywire
Timebomb
And two songs that haven't been recorded (yet):
Low 16
Dapper Dan
Oh - and by the way: we are playing live every single night!
Where and when:
Malmö (HIPP) from Nov 10th - 25th
CPH (Turbinehallen) from Dec 1st- 20th
New MONO album out on
Nov 10th!
Oh yeah!
The rumours were all true! There's a new Tremolo album out on friday the
10th of November. It's on the premiere night for the play we just did the
music for and also on the night of the Cristmas Beer release (SNEØL) in
Denamrk - which is always a happy occassion for a party!
We decided to do the new album in Glorious MONO!!! because it doesn't get
much older than that. We love those old Phil Spector and Beach Boys sounds
and lot's of other mono-goodies - so the obvious step would be to record
in mono this time. The result is of course excellent (and can also be
played using stereo equipment - mind you!).
Just like the first album it was done very quickly true to the old school
records we all love. We recorded the basic tracks in Gula
Studion in Malmö (and a little bit in Tambourine) in 2 days and then we
dubbed it at Eggstones Rehearsal room (well, it's more like a freakin
HOUSE with loads of cool amps, a MCI 16-track machine and complete
Pro-Tools studio - which we didn't touch!!!!). Then we mixed it at Gula -
also a 2 day session, and WHAMMO! A new sparkling old Tremolo Beer
Gut-experience!
The title is "Under The Influence of The Tremolo Beer Gut" -
check out the artwork (you won't be disappointed if you liked the old one)
right here:

We did the cover together with Tor Slotmann from Tothe International. He's
a stand up guy for helping us with this, as out usual main man John Bau is
kicking it in Budapest. We also did a very cool poster for the record with
the help of Jakob Strid (check out his daily comic strip in Politiken - it
totally rocks!).
Here's the tracks:
1. Agent Tremolo
- Sudas wrote this one: the ultimate spy theme, not counting Barry's
masterpiece!
2. The Sleaz-e-nator
- Yebo's title but Sudas' song. We switched the titles around, so
they fitted the songs better
3. Diablo Mountains Sunrise
- The Diablos lie somewhere in California (we think). Sounds like a cool
place to wake up!
4. Slingshot Dragster
- The Casbah Hit was really called SD, but again we switched the
titles
5. Stoli Chaser
- Stolichnaya Stolichnaya Stolichnaya - the best vodka in the
world!!!!
6. The Last Booze Fighter
- We premiered this tune at Roskilde 2000 with great succes! The Booze
Fighters we're a group of outlaw bikers preceeding the Hells Angels - and
with a slightly cooler name!
7. J-Cat Gone Haywire
- How weird can YOU get?
8. St. Duane
- Refers to Duane Eddy of course. The man with the BIG guitar. While
dubbing Sune and Yebo decided to put jingle bells on this track and call
it Santa Duane, but Jengo and Per vetoed this without hesitation - that's
why you can hear Yebo whispering "Santa Duane" on the track. We
removed the bells and changed the title but stuck with Santa on the audio.
Why? Nobody knows!
9. Kittyscope
- A suggested title was Murder Dogs, but because of the slide
guitars' whining sound, we wanted something mre cat-ish. Pussy seemed a
bit too sleazy, so there you go...
10. The Worm
- The hardest song to complete - and the last one to be named. Per came up
with The Worm as a reference to the Tequila worm and the Mexican feeling
of the track.
11. Theme From The Beer Hunter
- Per's original demo was entitled Videorama, but this title came
out of the fact thet Patrik (the 5th Tremolo - or 6th if Nalna counts)
found out that Yebos real name Jesper Reginal was an anagram of Pilsner
Jaeger (Pilsner beeing a type of beer, and Jaeger meaning Hunter in Dansih
and Swedish). When we came up with the title we didn't even think about
The Deer Hunter (for about 2 seconds).
12. Tahonga Lounge Babe
- Tahonga Bar is the legendary last stop hotal bar in Malmö. Oh
babeh, we've been there once or twice!
13. Revolvo 1974
- The track was called Revolver, but it seemed rather tired, so we came up
with Revolvo 1974 'cause Per has this old Volvo from '74 we always ride
around Malmö. It's the same car that can bve heard on Clayton's Hotrod on
the first album - and the same Volvo that always finds it's way into the
live cover version of Sonic Youth's "Death Valley '69"
14. Timebomb
- Yebo this one and called it J-Cat, but the ticking of the drums
suggested Timebomb as a more appropriate title.
15. The Casbah Hit (Bad Postcard From Palermo)
- The story starts out at a funeral in Palermo. A made guy get's
dead and the family sends a hit man after the damned killer. They chase
all across Europe and finally meet in the Casbah somewhere in the near
Orient. The fight is intense, but in the end the killer buys it. The
Vendetta is completed.
16. Plutonium
- The only track apart from Booze fighter we've tried out live
before the record. The title reflects the relationship between the
Swedish and Danish part of the band (for those who don't know: Sweden has
a Nuclear Power Plant lying just next to Copenhagen, which many Danes
don't really find that.... intelligent....Not Per's fault, though...
17. Diablo Mountains Sunset
- The Diablos seems like a cool place to go to sleep, too.
